6:00 P.M. IN THE BENTON MUNICIPAL BUILDING LOCATED AT 1403 SOUTH MAIN STREET, BENTON, ILLINOIS.

MAYOR KONDRITZ CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER. THOSE PRESENT WERE COMMISSIONER MILLER, COMMISSIONER STOREY, COMMISSIONER WYANT, COMMISSIONER BAUMGARTE, AND MAYOR KONDRITZ.

COMMISSIONER MILLER MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 28, 2019
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING. SECOND BY COMMISSIONER WYANT. VOTE WAS TAKEN. YEAS: 5. COMMISSIONER MILLER, COMMISSIONER STOREY, COMMISSIONER WYANT, COMMISSIONER BAUMGARTE, AND MAYOR KONDRITZ. NAYS: 0.

MAYOR KONDRITZ STATED THAT WE WOULD BE GOING OUT OF ORDER ON THE AGENDA AND ALLOW JIM MUIR AND LARRY MILLER TO GIVE A PRESENTATION TO THE COUNCIL REGARDING THE BUILDING OF A NEW COURTHOUSE. MR. MUIR STATED THAT THE PROPOSAL IS TO DEMOLISH THE CURRENT COURTHOUSE AFTER MOVING THE COUNTY CLERK AND COUNTY TREASURER TO THE CAMPBELL BUILDING AS A PERMANENT MOVE. MR. MUIR STATED THAT ALL OTHER OFFICES AND THE COURT ROOMS WOULD RELOCATE TO THE BUILDING ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE SQUARE OWNED BY CHRISTEN AND BRIAN DREW WITH A RENT OF $2,000.00 PER MONTH. MR. MUIR STATED THAT THE DEMO AND REBUILD WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY 18-24 MONTHS. THE FRANKLIN COUNTY BOARD IS PROPOSING A 1% SALES TAX WITH A SUNSET OF 15 YEARS (OR SOONER IF ACHIEVED EARLY) IN ORDER TO PAY THE ESTIMATED $15 MILLION FOR THE REBUILD AND MOVE OF OFFICES. THIS PROPOSAL WILL BE ON THE BALLOT ON APRIL 2, 2019. MR. MUIR AND MR. MILLER ASKED THE COUNCIL TO PRESENT A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THIS SALES TAX.
