MINUTES OF THE CONTINUED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
Friday, August 28, 2026 — 9:30 a.m.
Benton Council Chambers, Basement of the Campbell Building, 901 Public Square, Benton, Illinois 62812
1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
Mayor Messersmith called this special meeting of the City Council to order at 9:30 a.m., noting that this is a continued meeting. The City Clerk called the roll:
Present: Commissioner Storey, Commissioner Cockrum, Mayor Messersmith
Absent: Commissioner Garavalia, Commissioner Kays
A quorum being present, the Mayor declared the meeting open for business.
2. Debris Removal — 404 South Commercial
Mayor Messersmith stated that five bids had been previously received for demolition and debris removal at the property located at 404 South Commercial:
Farmers Construction (Odin, Illinois) — $9,800.00.
Scott Inglesby — $8,150.00.
Terra Pro Excavating — $5,000.00.
Minkowski — $7,200.00.
Earth Services — $5,480.00.
Zoning Administrator Brian Calcaterra stated that after reviewing all of the received bids, his recommendation was to take the low bid from Terra Pro in the amount of $5,000. This bid includes removal of debris and repair of the grounds.
MOTION: Commissioner Cockrum moved to accept the bid from Terra Pro in the amount of $5,000.00 to clean up the demolition at the South Commercial property.
SECOND: Commissioner Storey.
VOTE: Ayes: Storey, Cockrum, Messersmith. Motion carried.
3. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council, Mayor Messersmith thanked those in attendance.
MOTION: Commissioner Storey moved to adjourn.
SECOND: Commissioner Cockrum.
VOTE: Ayes: Storey, Cockrum, Messersmith. Motion carried.
